Computers have been in fictional stories for a long time and have appeared as intelligent agents or even characters in fiction since at least the mid-1900s. This presentation will review some science fiction movies and novels with smart computers either as a tool or as a character in the stories such as HAL from the movie 2001, Data in the Star Trek TV series and movies, and C3PO in the Star Wars movies. Computer characters will be compared to the current and future capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence.
